Admissions Process
For Alvernia University’s online programs, we offer a rolling admissions process. You don’t have to wait to find out if you’ve been accepted as we continually review applications. We also offer six start dates throughout the year, so you can begin your program at a time that’s convenient for you.
Steps to Applying to Alvernia Online
1. Speak with an Enrollment Counselor
After you request more information, one of our enrollment counselors will give you a phone call. He or she will answer your questions and discuss your academic and professional goals to help you find the right program.
2. Apply Online
For Alvernia’s online programs, you conveniently apply online. Be sure to complete all required fields and submit necessary documentation with your application. Remember that you may need to provide additional documents depending on the program you’re applying for.
3. Next Steps
If you’ve been accepted, congratulations! To prepare for your first day of classes, you can:
- Set up your student account and email address
- Accept any financial aid offers
- Transfer your previously earned credits
- Enroll in your online courses
- Pay for your tuition and fees
- Purchase any required textbooks and materials
Admissions Requirements
Below are general admissions requirements for our online programs. Depending on the degree, additional requirements may exist. Consult your program’s page for full requirements.
Undergraduate Programs
- Complete an application
- Provide evidence of high school completion/graduation. Documentation may include high school transcript, diploma, GED scores or equivalent.*
- Submit official college and institution transcripts (if applicable)
- Submit a copy of DD214 from military/military transcripts (if applicable)
- 2.0 GPA or higher is required
MBA Program
- Complete an application
- Provide proof of a baccalaureate degree and official transcripts from all institutions attended
- 3.0 GPA required; Provide GRE/GMAT scores if GPA is lower than 3.0
- Provide two letters of recommendation
- Write a one-page personal statement about the value of graduate education for your personal and professional goals
- Provide a resume outlining your professional and educational experiences
M.Ed. with Special Education Certification or with SPED Certification
- Complete an application
- Provide verification of valid Pennsylvania Instructional I or II Teaching Certification
- Provide proof of a baccalaureate degree and official transcripts from all colleges and institutions attended
- Have a GPA of 3.0
- Provide three letters of recommendation from professional and/or academic sources
- Write a one-page personal statement about the value of graduate education for your personal and professional goals
- Provide a resume outlining your professional and educational experiences
- You must complete the following background checks and clearances prior to field placement:
- Child Abuse History Clearance
- FBI Fingerprinting Background Check
- Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check
- Tuberculosis Screening
Special Education Certification
- Complete an application
- Provide verification of valid Pennsylvania Instructional I or II Teaching Certification
- Provide proof of a baccalaureate degree and official transcripts from all institutions attended
- 3.0 GPA
