Courses

The online B.S. in Psychology program requires 123 credit hours, which can be achieved with the following courses.

Liberal Arts  Core Courses (31-55 credits)*
All Alvernia University students are required to complete between 31-55 credits toward the Liberal Arts Core. Transfer work may be applicable for this area. As part of the application process, students receive specific information regarding remaining credits.

PSY 208 – Human Development across the Life Span
PSY 230 – Applications of Research
PSY 250 – Introduction to Psychopathology
PSY 301 – History and Systems in Psychology
PSY 314 – Applications of Theories and Techniques
PSY 412 – Practicum I
PSY 413 – Practicum II
PSY 422 – Ethical and Professional Issues I
PSY 423 – Ethical and Professional Issues II

Each Student Must Complete Five Elective Courses:

PSY 215 – Multicultural Issues in Psychology
PSY 330 – Crisis Management in Mental Health Field
PSY 350 – Industrial & Organizational Psychology
PSY 405 – Social Psychology
PSY 430 – Forensic Psychology

*Students entering the program with 70+ transferable credits or an associate degree must complete 30/31 Liberal Arts core credits.
**A total of 123 credits, including 3 credits in a human diversity course, are required to complete a bachelor’s degree. To adhere to Franciscan values, community service hours are also required.
***Students taking PSY 412, PSY 413, PSY 422, or PSY 423 may need to complete a residency or on-campus requirement.
